제목: 롯뱀이신 예수님을 바라보라 / 류웅규 목사(엘림외국인선교회 담임) .
민수기 21:4-9절과 요3:14-15와 이사야 53:5-6의 말씀은
예수 그리스도께서 장차 십자가에서 어떻게 죽으실 것을 보여주는 예표적인 사건입니다.
놋뱀은 뱀의 형태는 가졌으나 뱀의 독있는 성분은 없었습니다.
“모세가 광야에서 뱀을 든 것 같이 인자도 들려야 하리라.
이는 저를 믿는 자마다 영생을 얻게 하려 하심이니라.”
“그가 찔림은 우리의 허물을 인함이요 그가 상함은 우리의 죄악을 인함이라
그가 징계를 받음으로 우리가 평화를 누리고
그가 채찍에 밎음으로 우리가 나음을 입었도다.
우리는 다 양 같아서 그릇 행하여 각각 제 길로 갔거늘
여호와께서는 우리 무리의 죄악을 그에게 담당시키셨도다.”
이 놋뱀 사건은 우리를 대신하여 십자가에서 죽으시기 위해
죄 있는 육신의 모양으로 이 세상 안으로 들어오셨던
예수 그리스도에 대한 완전한 예표입니다(롬8:3).
오늘날 예수 그리스도는 더 이상 놋뱀이 아닌
생명을 주시는 영으로 우리 안에 내주하고 계십니다(고전 15:45).
본문 5절에 보면 이스라엘 백성들은 구리 뱀을 바라보지 않고
대신 하나님과 그들의 인도자 모세를 향하여 불평과 원망을 쏟아놓습니다.
하나님은 진노하시어 불뱀을 풀어서 그들을 물어죽이도록 조치를 취하셨습니다.
불뱀에 물려 죽어가던 이스라엘 백성들은 모세의 말대로
장대 위에 높이 달린 구리 뱀을 바라보기만 하면
불뱀의 독이 치료되고 살 길을 얻게 되었지만
그들은 무지하고 어리석게도 모세의 말을 듣지 않다가 다 죽어갔습니다.
오늘날에도 누구든지 우리의 죄를 지시고 십자가에 달리신
주 예수 그리스도를 믿고 영접하기만 하면 죄와 저주와 사망에서
구원을 받을 수 있지만 많은 사람들이 이 구원의 진리를
믿지 않고 거부하다가 지옥으로 떨어지고 있습니다.
너무 마음 아프고 애석한 일입니다.
구약 성경에 나오는 욥은 극심한 환난과 고통을 당하면서도
입을 열어 어리석게 하나님을 향하여 원망 불평하는 대신
감사 찬양했던 것과 대조적입니다(욥 1:21- 22).
가로되 내가 모태에서 적신이 나왔사온즉
또한 적신이 그리로 돌아가올지라
주신 자도 여호와시요 취하신 자도 여호와시오니
여호와의 이름이 찬송을 받으실지니이다.
욥은 이렇게 고백하기도 했습니다.
내 허물을 주머니에 봉하시고
내 죄를 싸매시나이다(욥 14:17).
너는 하나님과 화목하고 평안하라 그리하면 복이 네게 임하리라(22:21).
나의 가는 길을 오직 그가 아시나니 그가 나를 단련하신 후에는
내가 정금같이 나오리라(욥 23:10).
하나님은 사람의 길을 주목하시며 사람의 모든 걸음을 감찰하십니다(34:21).
내가 주께 대하여 귀로 듣기만 하였삽더니 이제는 눈으로 주를 뵈옵나이다(42:5).
우리 모두는 죄성을 가지고 있기 때문에
이스라엘 백성들처럼 사람들과 환경을 통해서 일이 어려움을 당하면
사람이나 하나님을 향해 어리석게 불평하고 원망하는 죄를 범하기 쉽습니다.
우리가 이처럼 원망하거나 불평하고 있는 한 결코 형통의 복을 누리지 못합니다.
원망이나 불평은 불행의 씨앗입니다.
대신 감사와 찬송은 축복의 씨앗입니다.

우리의 죄가 생각날 때마다 입을 자백해야 합니다(요일1:8-9).
우리는 언제나 하나님과 화목하고 평안할 때
하나님이 우리에게 형통의 복을 주십니다. 아멘!
Bible : Numbers 21: 4-9
Title : Look at the Bronze Serpent
Bronze signifies judgment. Bronze serpent had a form of snake, but had no poisonous element. Bronze serpent is a type of the Lord Jesus who was crucified in the likeness of the flesh of sin as our Substitute and Replacement that we might 'look at(believe into)' Him and have eternal life. As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up. That whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.
He was wounded because of our transgressions; He was crushed because of our iniquities; The chastening for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we have been healed. We all like sheep have gone astray; Each of us has turned to his own way, And Jehovah has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him.
This is a complete shadow for Christ Jesus who entered into the world in the likeness of the flesh of sin and concerning sin, condemned sin in the flesh. Today Jesus Christ is dwelling within us as a life-giving Spirit(1Cor.15:45).
According to verse 5, Israelite did not look at the bronze serpent on the pole, instead they spoke against God and against Moses, speaking that why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and there is no water, and our soul loathes this light bread. Then Jehovah sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people so that many people of Israel died.
If they looked on the Bronze serpent on the pole, they could be healed poison of serpent and get the way of life. But foolishly and dully they didn't obey what Moses said and died in the end.
But some of them came to Moses and said, We have sinned, because we have spoken against Jehovah and you; pray to Jehovah, that He may take away the serpent from us. So Moses prayed for the people. Then Jehovah said to Moses, Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and everyone who is bitten, when he sees it, shall live. So if a serpent had bitten any man, when he looked at the Bronze serpent, he lived.
Even today whoever believe and accept Jesus Christ who was crucified on the cross that bore our sins, he shall be saved from sins, accurse and death. But many people doesn't believe the truth of this salvation but reject Jesus Christ, then they falls into the lake of fire. It's a pitiful and sorrowful thing.
Even though Job in the old testament suffered in extreme suffering and adversity, he did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing. Instead he prayed in this way, 'Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave me and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord praised.'
Also Job confessed in this way, 'My offenses will be sealed up in a bag; you will cover over my sin.' 'Submit to God and be at peace with Him; in this way prosperity will come to you.'
He knows the way that I take' when He has tested me, I will come forth as gold. His eyes are on the ways of men; He sees their every step. My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you.
Because all of us have sinful nature. we are apt to commit sin to murmur and to complain against God like the people of Israel when we are troubled through the people and circumstance. If we complain and speak ill of God, we cannot enjoy the blessing of prosperity in our lifetime.
Murmuring or complaint are the seeds of unhappiness. Instead thanksgiving and praise are the seeds of true blessing from God. Between these, which one do you want to choose? Whenever we think of sins, we open our hearts and confess our sins to God. When we have intimacy and peace with God, true prosperity will come to us. Amen!
